This statement provides general information on how TCS and its affiliated companies, listed below, process your personal data. You will also find additional information in your contractual documents (product information, general terms and conditions, contractual clauses and ad hoc statements).
This statement is regularly updated to reflect changes in data processing practices and legal requirements.
Depending on the products you subscribe to and the services you use, the legal entities responsible for data processing (hereinafter referred to as the "Data Controllers" or individually as the "Data Controller") may be the following:
If you have any questions or wish to exercise your rights regarding your personal data, please contact the TCS Data Protection Officer:
Touring Club Suisse (TCS)

When you communicate with one of the Data Controllers, TCS collects your personal data (including but not limited to your surname, first name, address, e-mail, telephone number, vehicle registration number and other vehicle-related data, bank details, age and creditworthiness). This information is stored centrally in a TCS database and made available to the relevant Data Controllers to fulfil the purposes outlined below.
If you provide us with personal data related to your family members, we assume that you have duly informed them.
Any product- or claim-specific information you provide to a Data Controller will be stored separately by the respective entity and, in principle, will not be shared with other data processors.
Telephone calls may be recorded, particularly those made to our Operations Centre (for roadside assistance or personal assistance) and our Contact Center. In such cases, you will hear an informational voice message at the beginning of the call.
A Data Controller may also collect data directly from third parties when organizing services, (e.g. in order to arrange roadside assistance, return transport or establish facts in the event of a claim) and for debt collection purposes (e.g. via Intrum Ltd).
Finally, in compliance with legal regulations, TCS may obtain addresses from approved suppliers to offer its products, as well as those of the other Data Controllers, to non-members.
The respective Data Controllers use your data for the purposes specified in the TCS Articles of Association, the purposes outlined below and at the time of collection, as well as to comply with their legal obligations.
The Data controller collects, stores and processes your data as necessary for contract conclusion, customer relationship management, billing and payment processing, verification of performance obligations (coverage), provision of contractual services, claims processing, fraud prevention and mitigation as well as responding to inquiries and concerns.
If a decision affecting you legally or significantly is made entirely or partially through automated processing of personal data during contract conclusion, we will inform you accordingly at the time. In such cases, you have the right to request a review of the decision by a human representative.
To offer you products and services tailored to your individual needs, the Data Controllers may process personal data for marketing purposes. In particular, the following data may be processed:
The purpose of marketing includes measures that enable us to inform you about relevant offers and services, such as sending emails, displaying personalized content on websites, sending brochures and offers by post, and delivering digital advertising (this list is not exhaustive). You may opt out of these activities at any time.
To deliver and optimize digital advertising (e.g., social, search, and display ads), the Data Controllers may collaborate with third-party providers. This may involve the transfer of data abroad.
To deliver more relevant and targeted digital advertising, TCS may share personal data (e.g., your email address) with Google or Meta using an encrypted process (known as “hashing”). The data is then compared with customer data already known to the respective platform. Only data that both parties already possess prior to the comparison (e.g., the email address) is used. No personal data worthy of special protection is used for this purpose.
You can disable personalized advertising on Google by adjusting your settings here.
To better measure the effectiveness of digital ads, TCS may transmit personal data (e.g., your email address) to third-party providers using an encrypted process (“hashing”). This comparison allows us to determine whether an ad interaction (e.g., a click) resulted in a completed purchase. Again, only data already in the possession of both parties prior to the comparison is used, and no personal data worthy of special protection is processed.
Overview of potential third-party partners for the transmission of PII (subject to change): Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, Spotify, Pinterest, Goldbach, Ringier, Mediatonic, Disney.
You may opt out of this processing by rejecting the “Marketing” category in your coolie settings. You can find the link to the cookie settings in the footer at tcs.ch.
To provide you with information about products and services that best match your interests, the Data Controllers may combine known data into a customer profile that reflects your preferences. For this purpose, the following categories of data may be combined: basic personal data, contractual data, behavioral and transactional data, as well as technical identifiers.
Profiling enables us to deliver information that is as personalized as possible. For example, you may receive customized content in newsletters and on websites, see targeted offers, and be shown advertising that is potentially relevant to you.
The Data Controllers have a legitimate interest in continuously developing and improving their products and services. To support this, they may contact you to participate in customer satisfaction surveys in order to gather feedback on their performance and enhance the quality of their services.
The Data Controllers may also present you with products in collaboration with selected partners (e.g., the TCS Member Mastercard®).
In addition, the Data Controllers publish newsletters on a regular basis to keep you informed about their activities, services, and products, as well as those of their partners. You can subscribe to receive the newsletter and unsubscribe at any time by clicking the corresponding link provided at the end of each edition.
The Data Controllers may exchange basic personal data with each other (e.g. in the event of a change of address to contact you or to offer products tailored to your needs).
When you become a TCS member, you also become a member of the TCS section of the canton in which you reside. Each section is structured as a separate association. The basic personal data collected upon your membership and thereafter is shared with your section.
The Data Controllers may engage Data Processors who are contractually required to process data in accordance with the purposes outlined above and to implement appropriate security measures.
The Data Controllers may engage service providers to assist you. In such cases, these providers act as data controllers and process your data under their own responsibility. To facilitate their intervention, the Data Controllers may provide necessary personal data (e.g. medical data to healthcare providers at your location in the context of the “Livret ETI”).
Unless otherwise stated in the GTC or contractual provisions, the Data Controllers do not share your data with third parties.
However, data transfers remain permitted when required by a public authority or by law,or when another legal justification allows it (e.g. in the context of debt collection, to information services such as Intrum Ltd).
Your data is hosted on our servers in Switzerland and on servers of service providers in countries of the European Union, the European Economic Area (EEA), and the United Kingdom (UK). In some cases, due to the technical or operational infrastructure of our contracted service providers, your data may be temporarily accessible from other countries. However, we ensure that such access complies with Swiss data protection regulations.
Additionally, your data may be transferred abroad when necessary to fulfill contractual services and achieve the purposes described above (e.g. to arrange your repatriation or the towing of your vehicle, to provide medical assistance or to assert your rights).
Data is retained for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined above, to comply with legal document retention periods and statutes of limitations, or for other legally justified reasons. In general, your data is kept for 10 years, unless we are authorized to retain it for a longer period. The criteria for determining the retention period include legal requirements (notably Article 958f CO) and the statutory limitation periods for claims.
You have the following rights concerning the processing of your data:
If you wish to exercise any of these rights with respect to a Data Controller, you may send us a letter to our postal address or use the contact form on our website (see the instructions at the beginning of this document). In order to prevent misuse, we you are required to verify your identity (for example, by requesting a copy of your identity document if identification is not otherwise possible).
Please note that certain conditions, exceptions, and restrictions may apply to the exercise of these rights in accordance with applicable data protection laws (e.g. to protect third parties or trade secrets). In this case, we will inform you of this.
